To mark the 70th anniversary of the 28 Māori Battalion's part in the Second World War we provided detailed monthly accounts of their activities derived from the original war diaries. These have never been published before.
The Māori Battalion spent the first half of the month out of the Alamein line rehearsing desert warfare tactics and maintaining fitness through route marches.
The Battalion remained in Syria for the first half of June. They enjoyed a week’s vacation at a ‘Change-of-air’ camp on the coast near Beirut before returning to the Djedeide fortress.
