Kia ora koutou

I am the eldest mokopuna of Paora (Paul) Downes. He was born Dec 5, 1922. He went away and fought with all the other fearless soldiers of the 28th Maori Battalion C company. He never spoke of his experiences, he kept it all to himself. He always attended the dawn parade, even when he was unable to walk. I am so proud of my grandfather going to fight for something he believed in order for us to live in the world that we do. Remembered forever and always Dad. Your grandson, Jason
