70 years ago this month

May 1942 the Battalion is still at Arsal in the Syrian foothills undertaking exercises and manoeuvres. Major Tiwi Love becomes the first Māori commander of the unit. Read the war diary for May 1942 here

John Lewis Cunningham serial no 65276 is one of three brothers who fought in ww2. John ( Uncle Jack ) is the brother of Joseph Cunningham serial no 81775. Thomas Milton Cunningham serial 14698 18th Battalion (New Zealand Infantry),Killed El Alamein 21/7/42 age 36. Koro Cunningham serial no 817736 is a nephew of John (Koro's father is Thomas Milton Cunningham).
