70 years ago this month
May 1942 the Battalion is still at Arsal in the Syrian foothills undertaking exercises and manoeuvres. Major Tiwi Love becomes the first Māori commander of the unit. Read the war diary for May 1942 here
Sergeant Wickliffe at Clyde Quay School

Sergeant C.H. Wickliffe (Wikiriwhi) of the Māori Battalion at Clyde Quay School, Wellington, listening to songs performed by children from Tokomaru Bay School. Wickliffe was one of the 184 members of the Māori Battalion who returned home as part of the Ruapehu furlough in July 1943.
