Pat or Friday Patrick Hawkins was in the Pioneer Battalion (WWI).  He re-enlisted with the 28th Māori Battalion embarking for war with the 5th Reinforcements.  He arrived at Port Tewfik (Egypt) on 15 May 1941.

Noni is the wife of Major Sydney Jackson who along with his brothers' Lieutenant Everard Jackson and Major Tutu Wirepa served with the Māori Battalion.
