70 years ago this month
May 1942 the Battalion is still at Arsal in the Syrian foothills undertaking exercises and manoeuvres. Major Tiwi Love becomes the first Māori commander of the unit. Read the war diary for May 1942 here

28th Māori Battalion war veteran Col Aubrey Balzer travelled to Florence Italy in May 2011. He signed a shared memories agreement with the Florence Government on behalf of the 28th Māori Battalion, in acknowledgement of the huge sacrifice and contribution the 28th Māori Battalion made in helping to free Florence during World War II.
