Arriving home in 1946

Members of the 28th Māori Battalion crowd the deck of the troop ship Dominion Monarch as it arrives in Wellington on 23 January 1946. The Dominion Monarch was a luxurious 27,155-ton Shaw, Savill & Albion liner that had been launched in 1938 and was converted into a troop ship in 1940. After the war the ship was a familiar sight on the UK-Australasia routes until 1962.
