Dr Darcy was our whanau doctor throughout the 60's-80's when we lived in Belmont, Takapuna area on the Nth
Shore Auckland. My father (Reverend Maori Marsden) recalled a story of how the boys were sent to look for wounded amongst the casualties after a night of engaging the enemy. Dad overheard someone say, "Don't bother about him -(wounded), his wound is too serious. Dad looked at the wounded man and saw that a part of the cap of his skull had been blown off and promptly put it back on, bound it and called the stretcher bearers to take him for medical care.
That man was Dr. Darcy. Dad told those searching for wounded, that as long as they are breathing they have a fighting chance for survival. Later on when Dr. Darcy became our whanau doctor, all medical costs were free.
