Maori Soldiers Clearing Italian Barracks On Western Desert Coast..

Rare image of Maori soldiers clearing what i believe to be are the barracks captured by the 28th Battalion inconjunction with No 2 section, 7 Field Company Engineers, on the edge of the escarpment at Upper Sollum, some miles south of Bardia as part of the 2 NZ Division advance to Tobruk around 20 November 1941.These barracks overlooked a coastal pier where 19 Allied troop barges were attacked and sunk by German Stukas the previous December, although otherwise this position would have been a typically attractive Mediterranean seaside place where the boys would have felt quite at home.
