So Relieved To Be Off Crete

Explosive pose from this Maori soldier after the waste of Greece and Crete. The raw emotion on arrival here at Alexandria on the 1st of June 1941 would be unstoppable.

Noteworthy is the photograher in Mr George Silk who was born and raised in the New Zealand town of Levin. He moved to Australia in the late 1930s and trained as a photo journalist. When war broke out he was assigned as an Official Australian Army war photographer..something he remained doing for over 30 years in numerous theatres of Australian supported conflicts.
