Rudolphes Lewis was also known as Lofty and Sunny Lewis. My Pop was under age when he enlisted so he changed his name to one of his known nicknames 'Sunny Lewis'. Pop was born 22/07/1902 not 22/07/1896 and passed away 28/11/1981. This made him only 14 years old not 20, when he signed up on the 07/04/1917 for the 20th Reinforcements Maori Contingen,. NZ Maori Pioneer Battalion WW1. At 6 foot 1 inch it was easy to see how he passed as a 20 year old. Pop's older brother Archibald Abel Lewis also enlisted WW1.
