There is good coverage of Maiki's war service in the book Together we stand by James Holland that covers the last year of the war in North Africa. I suggest anyone interested in the 28th should read it as Maiki does them credit - brutal in battle, humanitarian in victory.

This my uncle Mike Parkinson. My dad's brother. There was a mix up, my dad's papers turned up first so Uncle Mike took them enrolled under dad's name.  So my dad had to change his name to enroll.  I think my uncle was too young at the time

Our dear Uncle was one hell of a character and a great story teller. He had the misfortune to lose a leg after stepping on a mine in Tunisia during the North African Campaign to take Takrouna and was invalided back to NZ. Having an artificial leg did not slow our Uncle down one bit and he had a great deal of energy and a huge zest for life. His stories had me in laughter always. We miss you dear Uncle Mike. May you rest in peace E Koro. Your loving nephew Na JR Parkinson
