4th C.O. - BAKER, Frederick, DS0, ED, MID
Born at Kohukohu, Hokianga, on the 19th June 1908. He was an original Battalion Officer, and held a number of commands, varying from L.O. Ship's Q.M. to Company 2 I/C and O.C. and Battalion 2 I/C.
Fred Baker took over the command of '28' after Colonel Love had died of wounds, 12th July 1942.
He was awarded the DSO, for his handling of his command in the Battle of Alamein, 23rd October 1942 up to the Battle on 1/2 November, when he was severely wounded and subsequently returned to New Zealand.
