Whanau Te Haate
Kia ora Barbara, I'm your cousin Dawn, who put the posting on your Koro. It's fantastic to have a response from you. It's been sometime since I've logged onto the site and it was because of ANZAC Day that I had a nosey. Unfortunately I couldn't remember my password to respond but that's now sorted. When I posted this I thought "Aw gawd, I hope no one minds that I've put this on the web!!" but I'm glad your okay with it. Arohamai for the grammatical errors, I have tried to correct them but can't seem to! I have a photo of your Koro on a disk somewhere so will try and add a photo if you don't mind? I can also post you a photocopy of the letter if you would like? Our Koro's were brothers and I got this letter from my mother Helen (Hineiwetekina Te Haate) Piggott. I've been interested in whakapapa for a number of years but really need to get home (like the rest of my whanau) to learn and be more connected. Koro Peno has always interested me. Why did he go to war when he had kids? In the Waikato not that many went to war because Te Puea didn't think we should fight for the crown (hmm I think that's right - I'll have to reread her book). I've been interested in where he actually went when he left NZ and what happened leading up to his death and was pleased to follow a link that gave some idea of this on this website. I'm going to print it out and read it properly when I remember so that I can build a picture of what was happening around him, even though it's grim. Anyway, stay in touch and kia ora for adding some comments :-) Arohanui Dawn We live in Motueka where I have a brother Reice and sister Ngaire. Your the same age as my sister and I'm sure I have some very vague memories of you from back home!
