Tena koutou katoa. Tenei te mihi ki to tatou koroua Taniwharau Te Hoemanuka Waru. He toa o Te Hokowhitu o Tumatauenga. What a great opportunity to share and read memories about our Maori warriors. I recall my grandfather telling stories about his experiences and while reading "Awatere - A soldiers story" biography was very proud to read about our grandfathers exploits. I would like to acknowledge and thank Arapeta Awatere who was like a mentor to our koroua and helped him in times of need. I look forward to reading more comments posted on the website.

Anita Lynch Tena koe Damon. Yes, your grandfather was a great warrior and was proud to have served with the 28th Maori Battalion. Like you, I read Arapeta Awatere biography and would like to thank Arapeta for his acknowledgements to my father. Any memories of my father from other sources would be gratefully accepted. He has given us a few stories but would love to hear from any of his colleagues.
