JACK RIO MAAKA

Kia ora I am the daughter of John Gilbert, son of Molly (Moananui) Gilbert nee Rio-Maaka whose father is Jack..he is my great-grandfather. I only remember meeting grandad once & that was at Palmerston North Hospital right before my nan died in October 2001, got some photos with him. Heard he passed away but none of us in Wellington could make it up to his tangi. It's mean seeing a little info about him on here, we always knew he was in the Maori Battlion which I've got mad respect for. 2much grandad, cya again one day?! Arohanui Gilbert Whanau
