George Marsden

After an eventful wartime career as a Māori Battalion officer, George Tuoro Marsden became a well-known school teacher and Māori educationalist after the war. A member of the 7th Reinforcements, he was wounded shortly after the breakthrough at El Alamein in late 1942 and later served as the Battalion's Liaison Officer at 5th Brigade HQ.

Getting out of school work!

My father attended St Stephens and was given the cane for attempting to get out of school work. In class, he used to try to get Mr Marsden to talk about the war instead of doing class work. Eventually Mr Marsden caught on to what he was doing and sent him to the School Master hahaha!
