About Me
I am the mokopuna of the late Maki Hori aka Te Rangihouhiri Maki Hori Hallett. I am the eldest child of one of his sons Te Hikoinga Robert Hallett and reside in the rohe of Tuwharetoa. As children my grandfather was always addressed as Koro Mak and we loved him dearly, like his Dad, koro Hori. He was a loving man, hard worker and I heard he was a bit strict too. It is unfortunate that I did not spend a lot of time around my koroua, to hear his war time stories, but many of us, my generation heard the stories from our fathers and more from our uncle who was in Co.B Maori Battalion name: James Te Kotahitanga Hallett.
Although my time was scarce with my Koro, my parents made sure we spent precious time when we could at the Korohe Pa.
My late husband's uncle was in World War 1 name Moa Hoko. Today my late husband lies beneath the tombstone of his uncle at Matauri Bay urupa tawhito.
I supported my youngest son with his korero and interest for his Papa Wiriwiri Te Hoko Whitu aka Wiremu / Bill Hoko. My son was always with his Dad when his Papa told the stories of being in Katarini, Greece.
I am also interested in my family ties to the War's, hence the reason I have written this.
