Hemi Marino, serial number: 1/20/5064, enlisted but died of TB in New Zealand before embarkation. He was 24 years old when he died on 5 April 1943. Hemi is buried at Kaikohe (Marino) Māori Cemetery. Possibly brother to Marino. [Information from CWGC]

He was the son of Wire Kihi Maihi and Ema Maihi, of Kaikohe, Northland.

Quote regarding actions of Marino at the Battle of Cassino taken from Battalion diary 19th February 1944: "1300 hrs Pte M Maihi counted as missing arrived back at Battalion having crawled through 24 Battalion lines and wounded through the leg and shoulder bone. He was evacuated immediately through 24 Battalion."
