Kiaora Everyone, I never Knew my Grandfather But am extremely proud of him for going to fight for our freedom. PT Turanga Morehu Tupe 67660, lies at rest in mangere cemetery where I have visited him three or four times now. I often wonder what it must have been like for him when they set off on their journey of life so that we could have ours. going to fight an enemy bent on destroying them in a foreign Land. So far away, leaving their loved ones behind, this must have been hard for them and the whanau, I can only imagine...
Te Awhi Manahi
Kia ora Linley We have found that as we loaded information on the website relevant to my Grand Uncle that I had to stop and compose myself. I was learning so much about him by reading the experiences of others. In the shadows of their words was our tupuna, only 19, then 20 and finally, 21 years old. As he emerged we felt stongly his aroha for us, the uri of his brother that he did not live to see. We have felt him beside us as we have placed what few photos we had of him on the site. We have felt his longing for home. We can almost hear his prayers, see the dreams he dreamt, hear his waiata. We can see his dear whanaunga that he fought with, bury him is a desolate, foreign soil. And we can feel the anguish of a father desperately hoping for news that his youngest child is safe... Te Awhi o Te Rangi.
