70 years ago this month
May 1942 the Battalion is still at Arsal in the Syrian foothills undertaking exercises and manoeuvres. Major Tiwi Love becomes the first Māori commander of the unit. Read the war diary for May 1942 here

Kia Ora Moko,
The Rangi Walters in this photo is my Koro. His full name is Waranga-nui-o-te-rangi Maangi Matiu. Because he was underage. He had to go else where to sign up and so he used parts of his name to join the army. eg. Rangi Walters (Waranga) and this photo was provided by my mum.

Thankyou for your reply, I was also told that our Papa was underage when he enlisted. Will it be possible to get some contact details of your mother so that we may be able to get some information.
