Noel Sadd

Noel Sadd who embarked with the 10th Reinforcements.

This photograph was sent in to us by Karlheinz Thieme.  Karlheinz was 12 years old when he met Noel in 1943.  Noel was a POW in a small Munich POW camp.  At the time Noel and other POWs were building an underground air-raid shelter not very far from Karlheinz's home.

Karlheinz says "We had daily contact and became friends. As a matter of fact he improved my school-english quite substantially. Naturally it was at that time not very much liked to have contact with an enemy soldier, but as you can see, we had other worries. So we had a frequent exchange of bread against some chocolate, as bread was rather scarce amongst POW's. On the other hand we youngsters had no sweets at that time and it was rather soothing to chew on some British chocolate while waiting in the shelter for the end of a british bombing night at the same time."

If any of Noel's family wish to contact Karlheinz Thieme please contact the website administrator at [email protected]
