70 years ago this month
May 1942 the Battalion is still at Arsal in the Syrian foothills undertaking exercises and manoeuvres. Major Tiwi Love becomes the first Māori commander of the unit. Read the war diary for May 1942 here

John Edwin Thompson (far right) and his two comrades
John, also known as Uncle Eddie to his nephew David Heperi, embarked with the 7th Reinforcements on 15 September 1941. They arrived at Port Tewfik, Egypt on 19 October 1941.
