70 years ago this month
May 1942 the Battalion is still at Arsal in the Syrian foothills undertaking exercises and manoeuvres. Major Tiwi Love becomes the first Māori commander of the unit. Read the war diary for May 1942 here
Hinga Grant, El Alamein, Sept 1942

"2 days for rest and clean up after the Munassib scrap El Elamein. This place is known as "Swordfish Area." Troops resting area from front line, 30 miles away" (Written on back of photograph).
