Djebel Takrouna, Tunisia

Djebel Takrouna, Tunisia taken during the Ngarimu VC pilgrimage tour in May 2014.

Takrouna is renowned for the deeds of Haane Manahi, Sergeant John Rogers, a small group of B Company men from the 28th Maori Battalion and a lone man from 23 Battalion Sergeant Smith (DCM). Sadly, Rogers was one of 115 Maori Battalion men either wounded or killed at Takrouna. Manahi was recommended for a Victoria Cross, but was instead awarded a Distinguished Conduct Medal
