A hangi in Italy, 1944

Māori Battalion troops prepare a hangi at Isernia, central Italy, in 1944, shortly after their withdrawal from Cassino. At back: Charlie Shelford of Tikitiki and Tom Poki of Whāngārā. Front: Joe Maurirere of Tolaga Bay and Pat Raroa of Tikitiki. The photograph was taken by the Battalion's long-serving medical officer, Captain Campbell D'Arcy.

Dates may need correcting

My grandfather Pat Raroa died in Feb 1944 so either the date of this photo is wrong or this photo is not Pat Raroa. I am guessing the date of the photo is incorrect as they did they Pat was a stocky person and always had a cigarette dangling from his mouth.
