David was also known as Da da (pronounced DAY DAY), Is the brother to Arch McCaskill who also served in the 28th Maori Battalion.

Hi Kristine, Thanks for this information. It is really interesting given that I have an aunty (David's daughter) whom we call Day Day. LOL. I have been speaking with his other daughter who had not heard this so we are really interested to know how this came about and where this info came from because we are currently researching more data about David and may be able to gather more info that would be helpful for us. Thanks again and we look forward to hearing from you. Nga mihi x

Kia-Ora,My name is Colleen Ranga (nee McCaskill).I now live in Brisbane. I am one of Archie McCaskill's daughters. We all knew "David McCaskill" by his family name as "Uncle Carlo". My Dad is one of Uncle Carlo's brothers. Sadly, my Dad passed away just recently on 22 June 2015 at Hamilton and we got to see the surviving siblings at the funeral. There are now five, 2 brothers and 3 sisters. In total there were 15 children altogether.Uncle Carlo and my Dad looked very much alikeand both had beautiful blue eyes...as does one of the surviving brothers who also has blue eyes. Like you, we discovered a website page (for our Dad) on the 28th Maori Battalion website, and there are also many other soldiers' website pages containing their official information, who fought for New Zealand, under the same website, acknowledging them as soldiers back in WWII, where family can register and put comments and upload family photographssoour war heroeswill never be forgotten. I believethe officialrecords are keptat the Museum at Ta Papa, Wellington, NZ and, maybe alsokept in the Auckland Museum. There was another brother who fought in the war as well, one we didn't get to meet assadly, he did not return and is buried overseas. His name is Fred McCaskill (Snr). My Dad had told us that he left behind a wife and 2 little children, our cousins who are now living in Australia. We got to see one ofUncle Carlo's daughters(Penny) who came toDad's tangi in Hamilton. I have a photograph of Uncle Carlowith some ofhis siblings, with their mother... our grandmother, who we called "Nan". There are so many cousinsnow living in NZ as well as in Australia and... with 4th and 5th generation in the pipeline.Arohanui - Colleen.

Attended the funeral for Aunty Jean (Dad's sister) yesterday. A sad occassion but also lovely to catch up with the whanau and meet Aunty Jean's beautiful grand children and great-grand children.

Day Day - daughter of David (Carlo)

Thanks so much for this info!!! I would love to see this pic of poppa and his siblings that you mention you have a copy of. Would I be able to get a copy of this please?

I was just with Aunty Pene today and she will be with us this weekend also along with Poppa Carlos other daughter Marylyn (Mal). So will be good to chat and catch up with them. My mother is Lynette (Lyn) Carlo's oldest daughter. I'm just looking into the ancestry so any help would be great!
