About Me:

Ko Taumatamahoe ko Kokohuia nga maunga; Ko Tangonge te moana; Ko Tipaki ko Wairoa nga awa; Ko Tinana toku waka; Ko Te Rarawa toku iwi; Ko Te Uri o Hina, Ngati Te Ao, Te Tahawai nga hapu; Ko Te Uri o Hina te marae; Ko Hohourongo ko Ngamotu nga whare; Ko Ahjun Busby Ahoy toku ingoa. I am the nephew of Leopold Puhipi Busby #801608 and Ponaute Puhipi Busby #25823, who served thier country with one paying the ultimate price while serving in Italy and the other serving in Greece and Crete where he became a POW. Both sons followed in thier father Haimonas footsteps as one who served in the great war of 1914 to 1918 in the first Native Contingent to Gallipoli, and then on the Western Front under the newly named Pioneer Maori Battalion. Haimonas father Riopo was a drivng force behind the erection of the Angel Statue in 1916, above the Kaitaia Cenotaph commemorating WW1 soldiers who did not return. Over time the memorial was extended to include other wars involving NZ.
