I believe this was taken in Russell, the Bay of Islands.  If I am wrong, please let me know.

This photo is of the Battalion marching up onto the Treaty Grounds at Waitangi using the Nias Track. Just behind where the houses are in the photo is where the Copthorne Waitangi Hotel now stands. Unfortunately, I cannot say that this is the 100 year celebrations of the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi held on Feb 6 1940. At that 100 year commemoration the Te Tii marae that you can see in the background was a tent city of some 34,000 people. Clearly, that is not evident in a cursory look at the photograph. A good photo.

Hi, just to let you know this place is not Russell but the road from the now waka house on Busby beach to the treaty grounds in Waitangi.In the backround is the Waitangi river. I hope this helps you, Cheerz Alf.
